Africa
From North to South, Africa is one of the most magical and wondrous of lands throughout the world. Starting in the north, Morocco offers all the style and mystery of Africa, with something of a Western European spirit mixed in. If its mystery, culture and nature you are in the right region.
Egypt remains a popular tourist destination, with many people heading for Cairo and the illustrious pyramids. Some of the most well-known structures in the world, the pyramids are visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. However, while they may be the obvious attraction for visitors, there is far more to see in the country than simply the ancient tombs of the Pharaohs and the excitement of the hustle and bustle of Cairo.
Egypt offers some wonderful beaches and whether you see the sand as ideal for sunbathing or want to use it as a chance to do something more active such as wind-surfing, the beaches of Egypt always offer something for everyone.
While the Sahara Desert may sound more like a destination for those with a death-wish than a relaxing holiday, the infamous desert does make for a more unusual holiday. One place where the desert can be seen is in Mali. Surreal landscapes and some fascinating art, Mali offers travellers a truly African experience. While it may not be the place for safari adventures, it does have some amazing scenery, including entire villages carved into the cliff faces and the incredible desert. Timbuktu is also in Mali, another example of the country's mystique as this famous city offers another different experience for travellers.
Cameroon, on the western coast of Africa, offers another taste of the continent. A vibrant country full of colour and passion, Cameroon is a lively mix of sea and rainforests on the one hand and semi-desert on the other. Some of the best wildlife parks in Africa can be found in Cameroon, where elephants roam free.
For a diverse look at Africa, few countries come close to matching Nigeria for the sheer difference in its population. While it may have had a chequered history due to the various peoples it comprises, it is these very people that have made it the place it is today and is why so many people still enjoy travelling to the country.
Nigeria contains over 250 different peoples, religions and languages, making it one of the most interesting and diverse places to visit on earth. The variety of colours, peoples and cultures mean that there is always something new to see and to discover in this country.
Tanzania, on Africa's east coast, is such a vast landscape that it can easily be overwhelming. The country is full of a myriad of creatures, from wildebeest, through lions and cheetahs, to crocodiles and flamingos; this is one of the best places to see the animals in their natural habitats.
Speaking of natural habitats, perhaps one of the best places to go on safari is in South Africa. The country may be better known for its towns and cities, such as Johannesburg and Cape Town, but the wide-open spaces where animals run free are fast becoming a favourite with travellers to the region. More breathtaking natural sites are on view in South Africa, with the likes of Table Mountain offering a fantastic view of the country.
