'Red Capital Ranch' (one of the subsidiaries of Red Capital Club) is one of the most incredible hidden gems in China. It was formally a Manchurian lodge, which has been converted into a wonderful retreat for travellers to the Great Wall. It's location is about an hour from Beijing, which means you can cut travel time between your visit to the wall and your bed for the night, more importantly you can visit various parts of the wall before all the other tourists arrive.

Two dogs greet you as you enter the over-sized wooden gates. The staff will promptly take your bags to your mountain lodge, each one uniquely named after different elements. Each room also has extraordinary views of the Great Wall itself, but the un-restored sections, which makes the place even more authentic.

The place itself is divided up into two main parts. The right hand side of the river are all the rooms and massage hut. The left is the main reception hut, dining area and library/bar room. All kitted out with authentic animal skins, locally designed and hand carved chairs and tables, with ambiance music to add to the atmosphere. They will serve you wonderful tea and biscuits in the afternoon- if you ask!

Red Capital Ranch staff will collect you directly from the airport (we would suggest this as the driving around the Great wall area isn't easy!) and can organise a private tour guide to take you on various excursions in the area – such as the restored sections of the wall or the 'Emperors Palace' in Beijing City. This is more than a place to stay; it's an experience destination. The hospitality, the views, the food and of course the atmosphere, make it a perfect choice for those wanting an authentic local experience.
