Hotel Kube is a real find. Situated in the unusually quiet 18th arrondissment, and very convenient for the Eurostar station, it is discretely hidden down a small 'passage.' From the outside this hotel is very understated, blink and you will miss it.
As soon as you enter the 'glass' Kube reception area, you realise that this is the real 'urban-chic' of Paris. This is unlike any of the quaint and floral B&B's that you would normally come across. The paved courtyard and red velvet curtain greet you into the bar area, which doubles up as breakfast, and livens up as the 'in-place' to be in Paris.
Each escalator is covered in unusual leather, leopard or tiger print and the lighting is very subdued. It really gives you the impression that this place is a real hideaway. The bedrooms are very modern and crisp, with huge baths, furry slippers and a well stocked 'shop'. The flat screen Sony TV's also double up as wireless computers. The most unique thing about this place is the very high-tech fingerprint ID entry, so no need to remember your key when you leave. This place is very funky and very fun.
The hotel really attracts a funky, young and hip crowd because of its live DJ music and 'Ice-Bar.' Paris' only Grey Goose Vodka ice-bar can be experienced in half-an-hour stints and you will need plenty of warm clothes as it reaches a chilly -5°C (although they do offer you furry gloves and hats!). This is a fun place, and the food doesn't disappoint. Unusually presented on lollipop sticks, and glass shots glasses this is the 'nouvelle' of 'nouvelle' cuisine. If you are really hungry they also do 'real food' in real sizes. If you are looking for a more modern Paris, and want to get away from the quaint 'chintzy' places, then discover a whole new side to Paris. Hotel Kube is the place to be.
