India & Central Asia

Asia remains one of the most mystical and spiritual parts of the world for many people in the West and also hosts some of the oldest parts of human civilisation. This is generally a favourite for the more experienced traveller, although can be enjoyed by anyone on differing levels.

From the politically sensitive Afghanistan to the cricket-loving Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the modern day Asia remains a widely diverse and vastly different part of the world for travellers. The various cultures to be found are a world away from those seen in Western Europe, with different, customs, traditions, religions and foods.

The Maldives remain a popular spot for couples, particularly those on honeymoon, which is largely down to the country's relaxed atmosphere and great beaches which enables travellers to get away from the stresses of daily life and relax in the baking sun.

However, there are also many parts of Asia, which can offer a more exciting and vibrant atmosphere for those looking for adventure. Nepal is synonymous with Mount Everest, offering the energetic a unique experience to climb to the highest peak in the world. While that may be a bit much for many travellers, visiting the country and arriving in the foothills of Everest can still be an exhilarating experience.

India offers a very different opportunity for travellers. While the country may have strong connections with the UK and many remnants of British colonialism remain to this day, the people of the country still have a clear identity. Travelling through the vast countryside of India can be an enlightening experience in itself as travellers witness a traditional lifestyle long forgotten in most parts of the world.

Pakistan is another former British colony that managed to maintain its own identity during the years of English rule. Simply because many people may be able to speak English does not mean that this country is anything like Britain (not at all!) and the southern-most parts, which lie on the shores of the Arabian Sea, remain full of the old mystery and wonder with which they were first regarded.

Meanwhile, in the bustling, vibrant cities of the capital, Mumbai, New Delhi and Calcutta, a more modern approach to life can be seen. However, the cities of India are quite different to those in Western Europe and the culture which underlies them can be seen and felt at every turn and twist through the market stalls and streets. While wandering through those streets, it is always worth looking out for those selling silks and other material, as the fabrics available in India are often far superior – and regularly cheaper – than those found in other parts of the world.

For those looking for a spiritual experience, there can be no better place to visit than Tibet. The home of the world-renowned Buddhist monks also has some of the most incredible temples ever built and a trip to see these is always a rewarding and awe-inspiring experience.

An adventure to Central Asia offers a whole range of experiences, which are completely different to anything available in other parts of the country, and represents the chance to see and enjoy a quite different lifestyle.
